Biography:

Prior to joining the UK History Department, Weldemichael taught at UCLA and Trinity College, and spent three years of teaching and research in Europe at the Universities of Bologna, Hamburg and Paris.

Weldemichael is currently on leave from UK on special research assignment.

Contemporary Northeast and East Africa and island Southeast Asia; imperialism; colonialism; decolonization; revolutions and nationalist movements; peace, conflict and security research.

Current research projects includes Northeast African political economy of conflict with a focus on Somalia, and maritime security in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.
