Research

I am a post doctoral fellow in the geography department for the 2015-2016 academic year. My recent research has investigated the impact of state violence on everyday life in Cairo, Egypt. Related to this work I have explored issues such as the role of art in politics, public space and domestic violence. My current work moves along two tracks of inquiry. First, I am exploring how concepts such as care and love shape statecraft and everyday politics. Second, I am examining the transformation of urban space in Cairo during the 20th century and the linkages of those transformations to regional geopolitics.
