Jessica Evans

Biography:

Jessica Evans is a Ph.D. candidate in English literature at the University of Kentucky where she is working on her dissertation The Mentor Figure in Women’s Fiction, 1778-1805.  She teaches courses focusing on the development of writing and communication skills for the Writing, Rhetoric, and Digital Studies Department (WRD).  In addition to teaching for WRD, she developed an ENG 230 course titled “Mysteries of Literature,” which she is to teach for the English Department in Spring 2017.  Formerly, Jessica also taught English composition courses at Middle Tennessee State University when working on her Master of Arts.  Jessica holds both an M.A. and a B.A. in English literature and an A.S. degree in Mass Communications. 

Her primary area of focus is in eighteenth-century British literature and culture.  She has presented papers for both regional and international conferences, such as the American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies, Southeastern American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies, Society for Utopian Studies, Children’s Literature Association, and more.  She has presented papers on Sarah Scott, Frances Burney, and Elizabeth Inchbald to name a few.  Her research interests include but are not limited to eighteenth-century British literature, feminist theory, gothic literature, utopian studies, and children’s literature.
