Lydia Dixon

Biography:

Hi all! I'm Lydia Dixon. I recently graduted from EKU with my B.S. in Geographic Information Science. While earning my bachelors I worked for Black & Veatch in the telecommunication department, on the Kentucky Wired Project for 3 and 1/2 years. On this project I dove into many aspects involved in buiding a successful fiber network starting with obtaining easement documents from land owners. I then moved on to the utility coordination aspect, this was my first glimpse into the GIS world as I had to use a program called 3GIS to obtain the utility information for the telephone poles that was previously collected. I realized I loved performing data analysis in the GIS environment and decided that is what I wanted my bachelors in. I took the long way around to find my passion in GIS, it took three different colleges, 8 different majors and a year break from schooling to get me there. I never thought I would find something I cared enough about to pursue a masters in but here I am starting my journey to a M.S. in digital mapping!

I am originally from Columbia, Missouri, I moved to Ashland, Kentucky when I was in 7th grade and have bounced around Kentucky ever since. I have currently landed myself in Lexington where during the week I relax at my house working remotely and spending time with my two cats Winifred and Binx. On the weekends I enjoy hanging out in the distillery district with my friends having drinks and listening to music. I love to travel when I am able, other than the United States, so far I have only been to London and Scotland with many more places on the list!

I am excited to start the M.S. in digital mapping program and get to know my fellow gradute students!
