Information for Advisees

Welcome! I have compiled a list of resouces that might be helpful for you as an undergraduate psychology major. If you have any links or bits of information that you would recommend to others, please send them to me and I will post them here for your peers.

First, if I am listed as your advisor, this means that you have earned at least 60 credit hours (junior status) and were assigned me in place of the professional advisor you had through the college prior to this point (or you transfered in with enough credits).

At this point in your education, you get assigned to a faculty advisor within your major because you should be at the point where you are thinking about life after college and what you might do as a career. I am here to help you on that path. While we can talk some about course decisions, at this point in your academic career, you should be familiar with your APEX report and those course choices are primarily up to you.

APEX and how to read your report

  • This website looks dated, but contains accurate information and videos: http://www.uky.edu/degreeaudit/APEX_Info_Page_Student.htm
  • Video tutorials on APEX: http://www.uky.edu/degreeaudit/APEX_Tutorials.htm
  • Run your report and see where you have RED requirements. These are the ones you need to fulfill before you can graduate. Anything that is GREEN is already completed OR you are currently taking a course that completes the area (it will have a small IP beside it).
  • I recommend that you put in planned courses as well (see tutorials) for future semesters. If a planned course fulfills one of your requirements, the requirement will be GREEN with a small calendar icon beside it. Please be conscious of this; planned courses will stay in, even if you decide to not take them later. So it may look like you are fulfilling a requirement that you have completed because of any planned courses you have in your list. I recommend running your APEX report with your planned courses in AND without your planned courses to compare them.
