Dane Ritter was born and raised in Lexington, Kentucky. He obtained a Bachelor's in English from his alma mater, Transylvania University. He currently lives with his wife and two golden retrievers, Forrest and Maggie, and studies identity, environmental decay, and the erasure of African American culture in the Appalachian region.
